The textured bowls are not functional. That is, they are not mixing bowls. They can be used for dry products such as fruit. I spray a light coat of clear glaze after adding the colors. The light coat of glaze does not seal the surface. If I put enough glaze to seal the surface, it conceals the texture. I like the texture.
